Day 6 - Gordes Village

Only at around 4 pm, we started to drive to our last destination, another old village called Gordes. Luckily it is not too far away from Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Leaving Fontain de Vaucluse....

While driving along the river, we saw the same kayak voyage which we had just experienced in the morning time. The same Captain Cook was there helping the group.

The signboard directing us to the destination is clear enough, so we didn't bump into any difficulties this time.

Around 20 min later, we arrived at Gordes Village.

Even sitting in the car, the view of this well-known hilltop village is spectacular enough.

Gordes is listed as one of "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" (The most Beautiful Villages in France). This village has not only build a world reputation for itself, yet be respectful for its past and of its traditions as well. It is well-appreciated centre for numerous artistic and cultural happenings.

We drove uphill, hoping to find a parking lot in the village...

Lucky we, managed to find a parking space without looking high and low everywhere.

After we parked the car in place, we walked into the village center....

I find that shops in Provence are pretty attractive to woman...Too bad their price is usually too expensive for my liking.

Items which are very French feels.

If check carefully, I think one can find many goodies inside the shop.

Gordes is proud of its castle firmly planted in its very core and which reminds the passer-by of a past rich with conquests but also marked with the sufferings of its inhabitants.

Today, the castle acts as both a Town Hall and a Museum sheltering the works of the painter Pol Mara.

The good thing about this place it, though touristic, yet it preserves its own charm.

I love this picture of them...

This too..

This kind of restaurants will usually do business only at night time, but not at the other time. I always wonder why afternoon-tea is not popular here?

As usual, we wandered the place with no specific reasons...

Most of the houses and buildings were built of white stone. Its labyrthinth of "calades" (narrow cobbleston streets) add a lots of charm to this place.

Many artists have stayed in Gordes and have contributed to its fame. Besides, Gordes is the seat of many cultural events in summer with its museums, festival, concerts and numerous exhibitions.

One of the calades inside the village....

How many years already??

We sat here for a while to feel the old stones surrounding us...

It would be nice to have a house here, wonder how much does on old house like this cost?

Everywhere is so beautiful...

When we walked pass this church, we went inside there to say a little prayer.

I think most of the people who walked on the calades are visitors. Other than visitors, we didn't see anyone who looks like a resident here.

Very quiet neighborhood.

We didn't get to see many children at this place. Even the kids had noticed that too.

We were pretty exhausted after having so many programs for the day. So, at around 6 pm, we have decided to leave Gordes and headed back to the hotel area for dinner.

On the way back, husband pull over the car, so that I could take some real good pictures at the vintage point.

Panoramic view of the Village of Gordes.

30 minutes later, we reached "home". The boys ran straight to the garden and played with those duckies again.

I feel happy to see them enjoying this simple activity than playing the electronic games.

Must thank husband for carefully choosing the right hotel for everyone...

That's the hotel...

At nearly 8 pm, we walked to the town center to look for dinner...

This time seems like a peak hour for dinner...

Even from far, we could see that the restaurants along this river were quite full house already...

Romantic dining place...

Finally, we settled down in one of the street restaurants, near the river.

As usual, foods won't come in 15 minutes time, not even in 30 minutes time. So, the boring 3 had started their electronic games again.

After waiting for 30 mintues, the french bread was the first to come...

Then, still a long waiting....

They won't complain much as long as they were engaged.

After 1 hour or so, finally the kids' order was served. Vincent was very happy to see his plate, especially in the presence of chips.

Husband's choice...

My choice...A normal dinner like this had cost us more than EURO 50, really not cheap.

Albeit the high price and long waiting hour, this place worth it. After all, it's not that we came here every month for dinner, right.
