Watoto Children in Concert

Last Friday night,we went to the kids' school to watch a free concert given by a group of African children, called Watoto Children's Choirs. Little that we know, this is a remarkable choirs, with each of their young members having their unfortunate background.

My friend whose children are studied in the same school wasn't that lucky though.  They didn't get the tickets. When we talked about this the day before, I consoled her that I hope this concert won't be a boring one. After watching the show, I whatsapp my friend and told her I wanted to take back my words, seriously.

The show was started at 7.30 pm sharp, in the school's hall. When the performers came out to the stage, the audience were totally amazed to see their vibrant dance and colorful costume.

Since 1994,Watoto Children's Choirs have toured internationally as ambassadors for Watoto. Each of the children in the choir has suffered the loss of one or both parents.

Since its inception in 1994, Watoto Children's Choirs have travelled globally, providing the children with a platform to broaden their worldview. It also gives them confidence and boldness and helps them rise up out of their own situations.

The choirs have been to Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, USA, Singapore & Malaysia. Their audiences have included royalty, presidents, ministers and the common man, capturing many hearts wherever they go.

Watoto is an holistic care progrramme that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned and vulnerable chidren and women in Africa.

It is positioned to rescue an individual, raise each one as a leader in their chosen sphere of life so that in turn they will rebuild their nation.

The Watoto model provides for physical care, medical intervention (including HIV / AIDS treatment), education (formal and vocational), couselling and emotional well-being, moral and spiritual discipleship.

The show was ended at 9 pm, with the biggest applause from all the audiences.

To support Watoto, we have bought their CD / DVD. I have also bought myself a scarf made by the young Watoto's women. All these cost us less than HKD500, but I'm sure the accumulated amount will make a significant contribution to the organization (www.watoto.com) in their future development.
